Four practices sit between the wand and the storm drain. Each one hands the water to the next.
Cover
Drain covers go over the storm drains near the work, so nothing that rinses off a driveway or a storefront has a way into the street.
Contain
Sandbags and berms hold the wash water where the crew is working, instead of letting it run down the gutter line to the next block.
Recover
Vacuum recovery pulls the water back up, and onboard reclaim tanks on the truck carry it away from your property.
Dispose
What the tanks collect goes to approved disposal. It is not dumped on a lawn, down a drain or behind a building.
Technician training sits under all four. A drain cover or a berm only works when the person placing it knows why it goes there, which is why technician training is part of the BMP standard.
Eco-friendly solutions, and none at all on solar
Roofs, stucco and siding are cleaned with low pressure and eco-friendly soft-wash solutions that lift mold, algae and mildew without blasting the surface. Less harshness on the surface means less to manage in the water afterward. Soft washing for stucco and roofs covers how that works.

What this means at your house
On a driveway wash in South Park or a patio in North Park, the water has to go somewhere. Under the BMPs it goes into containment and then into the truck, instead of down the curb toward the nearest storm drain.
